The DoE

The Department of Environment (DoE), under the Ministry for Tourism, Environment, Investment and Commerce (TEIC), is the main Government agency responsible for the management and conservation of the environment and natural resources. (The logo on the right will take you to the Government website.)

The DoE works to facilitate responsible management and sustainable use of the natural environment and resources of the Cayman Islands through various environmental protection and conservation programmes and strategies.

The DoE works closely with the Department of Environmental Health which is responsible for solid waste management, monitoring of air quality, water quality from a human health perspective, occupational safety, food safety etc. and with the National Trust whose mission is to preserve natural environments and places of historic significance for present and future generations.

Environmental Information

Some useful information from the Department of Environment is now available automatically over the internet and can be accessed from our Informational Links page (see page header for page links). This includes a copy of our Marine Park Regulations & Marine Conservation Laws brochure. This document is very important as it contains the laws on taking Marine Life in the Cayman Islands including maps of the Marine Parks.

Website

Unfortunately there was a technical mistake with our website. Much older information previously accessible from this site has been deleted. Full information about any of the Department's activities may still be obtained by contacting the Department directly.

We are intending to move to a Government website in the future which will allow us to provide much more information to the public. This will also alleviate any problems some persons have with accessing this site.

We apologise for both of these limitations of this present website.

New Regulations and Draft Legislation

The draft National Conservation Legislation is being reviewed taking in to account the comments received during the public consultation period. However, it is still available and any opinions from the public welcomed. Please see our Informational Links page for more information and a link to the draft legislation.

The Informational Links page now also has a link to the new Wildlife Interaction Zones regulations which have recently come into force. These Regulations govern control of fish feeding at the Sandbar, Stingray City and elsewhere around the Cayman Islands. We encourage everyone to familiarize themselves with the new rules as enforcement begins.
